This upcoming month, Group-25 will be four years old!
And it's still a relatively small group, with 196 members.
A few weeks ago, Cathy (reverse-will
) contacted me because she's become too busy recently to give the group the attention she feels it deserves and a few art submissions have expired because of this. So I've agreed to take over the group. Truth is, I've been pretty busy lately myself, and I'm not sure if I have enough time to manage the group the same way it's been managed until now.
Here's where you come in. Whatever this group becomes, it's not my group, it's your group. So I want it to represent you, the members. Can you take a moment to help me get to know you? And then I've got a proposal afterward and I'd like your opinion on it. Why did you join Group-25?
- in your own words. We all know Group-25 was created to be an active group for older artists, but I'd like to know what makes that personal for you. What will you contribute?
Are you just hoping to contribute your art, or are you hoping to have a more active role? Any answer is good. Not everyone can (or needs to) contribute more than their art - I just need to feel-out the room and see who's here. I honestly haven't met a lot of you, so this is my chance to get to know you folks. What do you imagine for Group-25?
That is, what would you like to see here? A larger group, or do you like the fact that the group is small? More journals? Tutorials? Contests? More networking opportunities?
After you've taken a few minutes to consider those questions, I'd like you to give some thought to a brief proposal.
I'm a contributor or founder for a lot of groups and it seems the biggest challenge for most of them is getting the art submissions approved. This becomes a big bottleneck and a lot of work in any group of any reasonable size. In Group-25 on the other hand, we don't have any specific rules for submissions, other than that obviously we'd like them to be submitted to appropriate categories. That benefits you as an artist as much as it benefits the rest of us who're perusing the gallery, so I suspect any of us who submit have that same goal. An Honor System:
So my proposal is that we switch to an honor-system for our submissions and have all the submissions automatically approved. This way you guys won't have problems with bottlenecks in the submission approval process.
I suspect there won't be enough submissions on a daily basis for this to cause any problems, although we could institute a daily or weekly limit if we later find that there's a spamming issue. I don't expect it though.
Plus, we're all adults here and if we see something that's against DA policy any of us can report it and/or one of our admins can remove it from the group. It's also still a closed group, with submissions only allowed from members and membership has to be approved. So in order for someone to post anything that violates policy, they'd have to be accepted into the group first. If they start posting inflammatory content and don't take a hint about it being uncool, we can always eject them if necessary (though obviously it wouldn't be my first course of action).
Let me know if you have any other objections to making this change. If the group is largely in favor (or at least if there aren't a lot of objections), I'll make that change in a couple weeks.
p.s. Don't forget to comment on those questions at the top!
